Thousands of kids run through the Haymarket for The Pumpkin Run

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Sunday’s downtown Lincoln street closures were all in the name of getting kids exited about staying active, staying healthy, and having fun.

In it’s 24th year, The Pumpkin Run still proudly promotes itself as the largest run of its kind in the country.

“We’re taking a little bit of liberty with the rating system there,” Dave Mlnarik, the president of the Nebraska Sports Council, said. “But there was a time where there was a national organizing body of running that tracked events. They specifically tracked youth events, and the pumpkin run was the largest. Now, we can’t even find that source anymore, but running events aren’t growing anywhere while the pumpkin run continues to grow. So we’re just going to keep that title.”…
