MILWAUKEE— Milwaukee Public Schools are introducing a new set of emergency procedures to better prepare students and staff for crises.
The district has adopted the Standard Response Protocol — a system already used in other large districts across the state and country. The protocol was introduced through the ‘I Love You Guys‘ foundation, and partnered with MPS to implement this around the district. The plan simplifies responses into five plain-language actions: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter.
“We identified there was a need for change as far as how we respond to all types of emergencies throughout the district,” said Kevin Hafemann, MPS Emergency Operations Manager. “This move not only simplifies matters but also brings us consistent with what our first responders are doing.”…
