Greeley city council approves 40-year lease with Colorado Eagles for new arena

Greeley City Council approved the deal terms for a 40-year lease with the AHL’s Colorado Eagles to use the new arena that the city is going to build. Wednesday night’s vote — which also included critical rezoning approvals — paved the way for construction to start on the $246M, 8,600-seat arena that’s expected to be completed by July 2028. A groundbreaking should occur before the end of September.

The Eagles, founded in 2003, are affiliated with the Avalanche. Their current home is Blue Arena in Loveland, Colo. Greeley is roughly 20 miles due east.

The new arena will sit within a larger development on Greeley’s west side that’s overseen by Water Valley Company and will also include a water park, a hotel, and three NHL-sized ice sheets for amateur/public hockey…
