Daniel Barmak faces sentencing for Wintergreen officer’s murder amid mental health claims

NELSON COUNTY, Va. (WSET) — The sentencing of Daniel Barmak, who pleaded guilty to the murder of Wintergreen Officer Chris Wagner, is underway.

Barmak admitted to second-degree murder, use of a firearm, and malicious wounding charges in February 2025. During the proceedings, Nelson County Commonwealth’s Attorney Daniel Rutherford called multiple witnesses to testify.
