Popeyes has come a long way from its humble beginnings in a New Orleans suburb back in 1972, when it first opened under the name Chicken on the Run and nearly failed. Founder Alvin C. Copeland Sr. gave it new life with a spicier Cajun recipe.

The newest addition is now open at 1558 28th St. SW in Wyoming, on the southeast corner of 28th Street and Burlingame Avenue. This marks the fifth Popeyes in the Grand Rapids area. It’s part of the Wyoming City Center Development Project, which is revitalizing this stretch of 28th Street with new restaurants (like Thai and Beyond), housing, retail, trails, and a massive pedestrian bridge that just opened over the weekend.
