New domestic violence resource center underway in the Upstate

GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – Greenville County leads the state for the highest rates of domestic violence cases, according to the organization Safe Harbor. Leaders with the nonprofit are opening a new location in the Upstate to serve those in need.

The new shelter and resource center for victims of domestic violence is under construction on Gordon Street in Greenville. Safe Harbor representatives said it’ll be the first of its kind in South Carolina.

Safe Harbor CEO Danny Varat said the new shelter will be two stories, have 65 beds and armed security. He also said it’s triple the capacity of their current shelter. According to Varat, there will be two- and three-bedroom suites, and everyone will have privacy and the ability to lock their doors…
