MADISON, Ala. — Need a smoke alarm? Thanks to the combined efforts of the City of Madison, Madison Fire & Rescue, and the American Red Cross, you can get one installed in your home for free.
Installations will take place on October 10, 11, and 12, 2025.
Madison Fire & Rescue captain Dan Pickens said at a fire safety event earlier this month, “There are a lot of deaths that happen in the United States that are preventable. Our goal is to any deaths that can be prevented if it takes teaching. And that’s what we do. Statistics say houses without smoke detectors for 60% more likely to die in a fire than those with working in adequate smoke detectors.”…
