Vape shop owner warns Alabama tax hike could push users to higher nicotine levels

The price of vaping in Alabama is going up. A state tax increase of ten cents per milliliter kicks in Wednesday. One vape shop owner says the way the tax is structured it will encourage higher nicotine usage.

“It disproportionately impacts people who use lower strength nicotine because it comes in larger bottles,” said Cloud 9 Vapes owner Cordell Harris.

Lower strength nicotine vape juice bottles are typically sold in 60 ml and 100 ml sizes. After the tax increase goes into effect October 1st, a 100ml will cost $10 more. Higher concentrated nicotine salts are typically sold in 30ml bottles. Those will only go up $3. Harris says customers at his eight locations may opt to buy the higher concentrated nicotine because of the price difference…
