Oldest murder case in New Orleans’ criminal court closes after 16 years with a plea

The oldest open murder case in Orleans Parish Criminal District Court ended quietly Monday, when a man accused of a killing pleaded no contest after 16 years of delays in one of the slowest-moving courthouses in the country.

Keith Kisack pleaded no contest to manslaughter, attempted second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. In exchange, he received a 16-year prison sentence with credit for time already served. A no-contest plea, or nolo contendere, allows a defendant to accept conviction without admitting guilt.
