Pepper spray likely used in Waikīkī bank heist, suspect on the run

WAIKĪKĪ – District 6 patrol officers responded to a robbery at the First Hawaiian Bank Waikīkī branch on September 29, 2025, where a suspect used a substance that appears to be pepper spray.

The suspect, described as a white male in his 40s or 50s, demanded money and fled after spraying a substance. Preliminary field tests indicate it was “oleoresin capsicum”, commonly known as “pepper spray”. Multiple employees experienced irritation and received medical attention.
