Dallas, TX – A second victim of the sniper-style shooting at a Dallas Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility has died, according to an announcement from the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC). Miguel Angel Garcia-Hernandez, 32, passed away after being taken off life support due to injuries sustained in the attack.
Garcia-Hernandez was shot at least eight times during the September 24 incident and had been hospitalized in critical condition at Parkland Hospital.
His wife, Stephany Gauffeny, expressed profound grief over his death. “My husband Miguel was a good man, a loving father, and the provider for our family,” Gauffeny stated.
“We had just bought our first home together, and he worked hard every single day to make sure our children had what they needed. His death is a senseless tragedy that has left our family shattered.
I do not know how to explain to our children that their father is gone.”
According to LULAC, Garcia-Hernandez is survived by his wife, who is expecting their fifth child, and their four young children. The family had recently moved into their first home, and a crowdfunding effort initiated by his family described him as the sole provider.
Meanwhile, the third victim of the shooting, Jose Andres Bordones-Molina, has been released from the hospital, a Department of Homeland Security official confirmed.
The Dallas ICE field office is scheduled to resume operations on Tuesday, with increased security protocols implemented. The facility serves as a temporary holding location for detainees. Data analysis for the period between January 20 and mid-June indicated that the office typically held an average of 47 individuals per day, with most detainees spending approximately seven hours in custody.
