NEWARK, N.J. (PIX11) – Over 15,000 people have applied to join the Section 8 waitlist in Newark just two weeks after it opened.
The waitlist opened on Sept. 16 for the city’s Housing Choice Voucher program. By Friday, 15,359 households had applied for the program, according to a spokesperson for the Newark Housing Authority.
Who qualifies for the Section 8 waitlist in Newark?
It’s the first time the waitlist has opened since 2013, when the city put 19,796 households on the waitlist. It’s not immediately clear when the current waitlist will close.
