Authorities in Austin have linked the package bombs discovered yesterday at local FedEx facilities to a series of prior explosions that have troubled the city, resulting in two fatalities and several injuries over recent weeks. As reported by CBS Austin, the first explosion took place shortly after midnight at a FedEx distribution center in Schertz, with an employee being treated on-site and subsequently released. The second device was intercepted and neutralized by law enforcement around five hours later at another FedEx location in Southeast Austin.
The Austin Police Department, the FBI, and the ATF are investigating the connection between the incidents, confirming in a joint statement that the latest incidents are indeed related to the previous bombings. According to a statement obtained by Fox San Antonio, an ongoing threat to the public has been declared, and a caution has been issued against approaching or engaging with any suspicious person or object. The police have urged the public to stay vigilant and have requested anyone with information to come forward.
