A Newton man with prior domestic assault convictions in Polk County was arrested by Newton Police Sunday afternoon, as part of an investigation into an alleged domestic assault approximately two to three weeks ago. According to Newton Police, the alleged victim reported the prior incident at the police station on Sunday. The police report states officers were told that forty-four-year-old Tyree Lee Young threw items at the woman, struck her in the mouth with his hand, and threatened to kill her three times. Based on the woman’s statements, officers obtained a search warrant for Young’s home on First Street North. Court documents state a loaded Smith & Wesson 9mm caliber handgun was recovered from underneath the box spring on Young’s bed, and 0.9 grams of marijuana…..
