New Lenox Police have now arrested a second man for attempted Armed Robbery and Aggravated Unlawful Restraint – stemming from an incident that occurred on September 1st.
At approximately 5:37 p.m. 0n Monday, September 1, New Lenox Police responded to an Attempted Armed Robbery at the AT&T store located at 701 E. Lincoln Highway. The complainant was an employee of the store who advised two males in masks, gloves, and construction clothing entered the business and brandished a firearm. One male subject displayed a handgun and demanded that the employee open the store safe. The employee was escorted to the back room and attempted to open the safe, however, the safe had security measures that prevented it from being opened immediately. The armed subject then struck the employee on the head with the firearm causing minor injuries.
The subjects became impatient with the process of opening the safe and left without removing any property. Although one subject, Virgil Holland, had previously been identified, arrested and charged, Detectives have been diligently working on this case to identify the second subject from this incident. Detectives obtained additional information and evidence linking, the second subject, Matthew D. Moore to the Attempted Armed Robbery. Moore was taken into custody on 09/25/25 for investigation and transported to the New Lenox Police Department. Moore was seen on video at a dollar store, where white latex gloves were purchased a few hours prior to the incident. These gloves matched what the subjects were wearing in the AT&T security video. Moore was charged with Attempted Armed Robbery (Class 1 Felony) and Aggravated Unlawful Restraint (Class 3 Felony) on 9/26/25. He was transported to the Will County Adult Detention…
