CSPD deploying mobile speed cameras targeting key areas

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — New speed cameras will be deployed in Colorado Springs in November, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD). The cameras will be installed in vehicles, allowing them to be easily relocated to different areas, with a focus on vulnerable roadway users.

According to CSPD, the department will be receiving new Automated Vehicle Identification System (AVIS) technology in the form of two mobile Speed Safety Camera (SSC) systems, a technology that is new to the community but has a proven record of improving road safety in other cities.

Currently, CSPD plans to use the SSCs in key areas around the city, including school zones, roads bordering municipal parks, neighborhoods, and construction zones. This strategy prioritizes protecting the community’s children, with enforcement in school zones during morning drop-off and afternoon pickup.
