Jefferson School hosts event for incarcerated women to speak

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Across the country, women in jail and prison face unique challenges, from giving birth behind bars to surviving abuse.

On, Tuesday September 30, people in Charlottesville gathered to shine a light on those struggles and the ongoing push for change.

“The biggest thing for me was having my son and only holding him for four hours,” Legendary AveNew Founder Candace Williams said. “Then I was thrown back in the cell and I had to deal with postpartum. Because I suffered from depression.”…
