SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio (WJW) — The city of Shaker Heights is trying something new to manage its overabundant deer population — a surgical sterilization program.
“For one night only in January 2026, veterinarians and wildlife specialists will anesthetize, sterilize and tag female deer in the city’s south end,” said police Cmdr. Timothy Kohanski.

“The deer will be darted, transported to South Euclid’s service department and operated on by a veterinary team. Afterward, the treated deer will be returned to a safe location near where they were found.”
