Montgomery City Council approves local vape tax

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – The Montgomery City Council has unanimously approved a new vape tax. City leaders say the move will keep more money in the capital city, but some local shop owners worry it could hurt business.

At Pharaoh Smoke Vape CBD & Phone Repair in Montgomery, owner Tiffany Bowens says she’s already seen sales drop. Back in July, Alabama passed a law banning smokeable THC and CBD — a change that cut into her bottom line.

“I had to lean more on vape products,” Bowens explained. “Now this is just more money on people’s pockets… on top of the economy that we’re in already. I feel like that’s really unfair.”…
