Local experts warn of drug-resistant bacteria, advising careful antibiotic use

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – As colder weather approaches and sickness spreads more rapidly, national and local medical experts are researching a dramatic increase in a unique type of drug-resistant bacteria across the U.S.

NDM-CREs, scientifically referred to as New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase-producing carbapenem resistant enterobacterales, are resistant to even the strongest-grade antibiotics used to treat infections such as pneumonia, urinary tract infections and wounds.
