Multiple roadways are closed in Charlottesville Monday after a collision shortly after noon. A commercial vehicle struck the Old Ivy Road bridge, damaging a support beam.
The crash closed Old Ivy Road and the US-29/250 bypass in both directions for most of the afternoon. They remain closed as of 5 p.m. Monday, along with the eastbound and westbound and US-29 exits from Interstate 64 (both Exit 118B). Southbound US-29 traffic is being rerouted at Barracks Road.
Crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation, as well as the contractor who had been working to replace the bridge, determined that it will need “immediate, temporary repairs” before traffic can safely pass under the bridge again.
