Revisiting Sophia’s House of Pancakes

Sophia’s House of Pancakes used to be a favorite of my family’s. We went there almost every week for breakfast, brunch and even dinner. But over time, things somehow changed. Whether it was the quality of food or just the overall feel of the place, we found ourselves not enjoying it as much as we used to. However, we recently heard the eatery had undergone some updates and decided it was time to give it another chance.

The interior design is typical of a diner: warm, welcoming and simple. The walls have been repainted, there are new tables and chairs, and everything has been refreshed with a more modern appearance than before. There’s plenty of space, although the restaurant tends to get very busy on weekends. That isn’t surprising: Saturday and Sunday were always “pancake days” to me. If you want to avoid the crowds, it might be better to visit on a weekday. However, if you decide to brave the busier times, the service remains fast and friendly, thanks to the hardworking staff.

The menu has also been updated with a wider variety of entrées, like breakfast sandwiches and eggs Benedict. Meanwhile, the diner’s long, familiar list of breakfast and lunch staples remains, including several varieties of omelets, pancakes, skillets, frittatas, sandwiches and wraps…
