‘It’s an overwhelming challenge’: Hundreds of homeless Appleton students overload school district

APPLETON, Wis. — There’s a disturbing trend in Wisconsin’s public schools. The number of students identifying as homeless increased last year to 20,195, according to data from the Wisconsin Policy Forum.

In 2023, that number was 18,510. This is the highest number of homeless students since 2019.
