Fort Bend County Judge KP George has formally voted against the adopted Fiscal Year 2026 budget, citing unsustainable growth in county spending. George raised strong concerns over the trajectory of county spending, noting that the budget has nearly doubled from $382 million in 2019 to $760 million in 2026, while expected revenues for the coming fiscal year stand at only $721 million, creating a concerning gap of spending more than the county’s revenue. The adopted budget includes an increase of nearly $30 million over last year,” George said.
“While I recognize our county’s rapid growth, fiscal responsibility must remain our top priority….we need a flat budget with no increase to avoid future layoffs or painful cuts like those our neighbors in Harris County are already facing. We cannot continue down a path where spending outpaces revenue.”
