Police union chair criticizes DC’s violence interrupter program, survivor pushes back

WASHINGTON (7News) — The head of the DC Police Union dismissed the program that’s tasked with reducing gun violence, mediating disputes, and supporting those affected by crime, calling it a misuse of taxpayer dollars.

“Violence interruption in the District of Columbia is a grift. It is a way for tax dollars to get funneled into the hands of criminals,” said Gregg Pemberton, Chairman of the D.C. Police Union, during his testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
