RED SPRINGS — Red Springs High School graduate Gaitley Stevenson-Mathews has been named Community Builder of the Year at the hmTv Awards Ceremony on Sept. 19 held at the Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center (HMTC) in New York.
Stevenson-Mathews is widely recognized for his leadership in community engagement. In addition to his role as HMTC’s Community Engagement Officer, he is a voice and speech coach, worked for many years in theatre as both an actor and producer, and is a former Glen Cove City Councilman on Long Island, New York.
This latest honor builds on other recognitions, including being named Citizen of the Year by the North Shore Elks Lodge for his work as President and Founder of the Tribute and Honor Foundation — serving veterans and their families, along with recognition from the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) for his advocacy on behalf of those who served. He also recently received the Allen de Hart Humanitarian Award from Louisburg College, where he graduated in 1981 and served as Student Body President.
