The Madison School Board approved Monday more than $3 million in amendments to its 2025-26 budget, including a unanimous vote in favor of nearly doubling the pay of board members.
Board members voted down two other amendments that would have further boosted their compensation. The School Board unanimously killed a proposal that would have made themselves eligible for district health insurance, and board members split 5-2 against providing themselves a $3,500 stipend for professional development activities.
Each School Board member’s annual stipend will increase from $8,000 to $15,000, plus an additional $1,200 for the board president and an additional $600 for the vice president and committee chairs. The School Board last boosted its pay in 2015 from $4,200 to $8,000…
