Craven ends AG campaign ahead of Target 12 report on 2001 domestic-violence incident

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — State Rep. Bob Craven has ended his campaign for attorney general after just four days, hours before Target 12 was set to air a report revealing new details about his past conduct.

In a statement, Craven said he had discussed the situation with his family Wednesday and learned more about his behavior on the night of Sept. 4, 2001, when his wife accused him of domestic violence. He acknowledges he was drinking heavily at the time.

The 69-year-old said he was making the decision “because my family — and my sobriety — must come first,” and out of a “genuine desire to protect my family from further pain.”…
