Bronx building collapse: Image shows huge crater in high-rise as search underway

A New York City apartment building partially collapsed into a pile of rubble on Wednesday following a gas explosion.

The incident took place at the NYC Housing Authority’s Mitchell Houses on Alexander Avenue in the Mott Haven section of The Bronx just after 8 a.m.

No deaths or injuries were reported. The New YorkCity Fire Department said initial reports suggested that the explosion took place in the boiler room of the 20-story building’s incinerator shaft.

“An investigation is underway to determine the cause of this event and the extent of any damage beyond the reported exterior damage to the chimney,” New York City’s housing authority said in a statement…
