WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — A Clive woman was booked into the Polk County Jail early Thursday morning on charges related to a more than $620,000 theft from her former employer, the owner of multiple Pizza Huts in the Midwest.
Joni Dorfman, 69, is charged with first-degree theft, first-degree fraudulent practices, and forgery. Court documents filed in her case say that over the 13 years she was employed as an office assistant and bookkeeper for Comes Investments in West Des Moines, she stole $621,857.18.

The business owns Pizza Hut franchises in Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota.
The theft was discovered following Dorfman’s retirement in February of 2025, after multiple financial discrepancies were found when the business switched to new financial tracking software. The West Des Moines Police Department investigated the claims.
The criminal complaint said that during her employment at Comes Investments, she wrote 471 unauthorized checks from the business to herself that were deposited into her account…
