MATTAWAN, Mich. (WOOD) — Many Michigan schools are maintaining a free breakfast and lunch program for all students while a finalized state budget has yet to be approved.
During late summer, multiple districts urged families to fill out an application for educational benefits, including free and reduced lunch. School officials were not sure if the Michigan School Meals Program would continue to cover breakfast and lunch for all students amid a state budget battle.

A measure passed earlier this week keeps both the program and the rest of the state government open as a new fiscal year starts.
