CBS12 Exclusive: St. Lucie County SROs catch vape shops selling to underage customers

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — Amid a rise in nicotine and THC vapes being found on school campuses, the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office is tackling the problem at the source by launching an undercover operation targeting vape shops that sell to minors.

The issue has become a near-daily problem for School Resource Officers (SROs), who report finding vaping devices carried by children as young as 13. SROs with the Sheriff’s Office sent underage undercover agents into local vape shops to conduct compliance checks.

The operation revealed that six out of the 25 shops checked failed the compliance test by selling nicotine products to the undercover agents. One cashier, who sold a vape without checking the agent’s ID, was surprised when deputies and supervisors entered the store to issue her a court summons for selling to a minor…
