PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A federal detainee who admitted to conspiring with a fellow detainee and now former correctional officer to distribute drugs at the Donald W. Wyatt Detention Facility was sentenced in U.S. District Court.
U.S. District Attorney Sara Miron Bloom’s office announced on Tuesday that Matthew Pizarro, 36, was sentenced to 60 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release.
BACKGROUND: Detainee plead guilty to smuggling drugs in Wyatt Detention Facility
Back in February 2021, correctional officer Kaii Almeida-Falcones was seen on surveillance cameras stopping by Pizarro’s cell for less than a minute. Pizzaro then reportedly visited the cell of fellow detainee Emmanuel Nolasco for less than a minute.
Officers later strip-searched Nolasco, finding a package containing suboxone strips. Officers also searched Pizarro’s cell and found 4.5 grams of marijuana in his pillow case…
