SYRACUSE, N.Y. — More than 60,000 warning tickets have been issued to drivers speeding or going through red lights in school zones in Syracuse in two weeks, Mayor Ben Walsh announced on Thursday.
The tickets stem from the beginning of the city’s School Zone Traffic Enforcement. The warning period began on the first week of school. It’s scheduled to last for 60 days before violators begin accruing fines and penalties.
The program uses cameras to capture the license plates of speeding vehicles. Anyone caught violating the speed limit or going through a red light in a school zone is mailed a ticket. Those tickets show the speed they were going, when and where the violation occurred…
