Libbey Glass strike, longest in over 50 years, reaches 41st day

TOLEDO, Ohio — The Libbey Glass strike stretched into its 41st day on Thursday, officially becoming the company’s longest work stoppage in more than half a century.

Union workers say they’re pushing back against proposals to cut seniority rights and reduce benefits. On Thursday, Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz and city council member Vanice Williams joined the picket line in support.

Kapszukiewicz called dignity, respect and fair wages “not unreasonable demands” and said the city is applying financial pressure on Libbey by scaling back tax breaks…
