Arkansas governor appoints new mayor for Helena-West Helena

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee announced Thursday that a new Helena-West Helena mayor has been appointed after the previous mayor was removed from office in July.

Joseph Whitfield will now take over the mayoral office for the rest of his predecessor’s term, which ends in 2026.

“I am honored about my appointment to serve as Mayor of Helena-West Helena,” Whitfield said. “This city is my home, and I am committed to working every day to strengthen our neighborhoods, support our businesses, and create new opportunities for development.
