Protests begin over National Guard deployment request to New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — As Governor Landry calls for the national guard to be deployed in New Orleans, some protestors call it a direct attempt to harass and oppress black and immigrant residents.

“This attack is coming here; and it’s coming to D.C., Chicago and Memphis because they’re Black cities and it’s part of trump’s racist agenda to take control further away from Black Americans,” protester Rory MacDonald said.

This wouldn’t be the first time this year that the national guard has been here.

They were here during Mardi Gras and the Super Bowl, but protesters fear that a much longer deployment can be dangerous…
