Settlement reached in lawsuit filed by elderly woman shoved by Sparks firefighter

SPARKS, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — A settlement has been reached in the lawsuit filed by an elderly woman who alleged she suffered a traumatic brain injury when a Sparks firefighter shoved her during a dispute over feeding stray cats.

According to documents filed in the Second Judicial District Court, Maureen Hvegholm, who was 84 at the time of the 2022 incident, and Travelers, the city of Sparks’ insurance company, agreed to the settlement terms.

The exact dollar amount hasn’t been released yet because both sides haven’t formally signed onto the settlement. It does not need to be approved by the Sparks City Council because Travelers took over the city’s defense of the lawsuit and ‘had final decision-making authority on any settlement,’ city spokesperson Julie Duewel said…
