WENATCHEE — A Tacoma man is facing a long road to recovery after a devastating accident in Wenatchee in late July left him severely injured.
On July 25, 56-year-old Darin Churchill of Tacoma was working out of town in Wenatchee when he and his coworkers decided to stop at the Buzz Inn Steakhouse for dinner and to watch the Mariners game. On his walk back to his hotel that evening, Darin came upon a train stopped across a road. He asked a motorist how long they had been waiting, and the driver told him it had been about 15 minutes. Darin sat down on the curb and waited another half hour, but with no sign of movement, he decided to cross between the train cars.
That’s when the train suddenly lurched forward, trapping his foot. Darin managed to call 911 from his phone, and emergency crews stopped the train before more damage could be done. He was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle…
