5 kittens sent to prison at WCCC, another 160 to follow

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Five kittens arrived Thursday, Oct. 2, at the Women’s Community Correctional Center as part of a new foster pet pilot program.

The initiative is designed to give female inmates the chance to care for animals while learning skills for life after prison.

The program, called Transforming Animal and Incarcerated Individuals’ Lives, or TAIIL, will last 12 months, and inmates will act as foster mothers to kittens from the Hawaiian Humane Society…
