JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Thousands of Jacksonville residents who depend on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) are unsure what their monthly funding will look like as the government remains shut down.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, nearly one in five families in Duval County receive SNAP benefits. Many are now wondering how they’ll continue to put food on the table if the shutdown continues.
“And if this goes on for weeks, we will see an utter catastrophe this country really hasn’t seen in modern times,” said Joel Berg, CEO of Hunger Free America. “In Florida, one in seven children live in households that struggle against hunger.”…
