More than 130% increase of all ICE inmates at Orange County Jail this past year

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A new report showcasing the Orange County Corrections “Average Daily Population with ICE Detainers” found that the inmates being held on immigration-related charges has risen significantly over the last year.

‘ICE Detainers,’ or inmates issued by ICE, fall into one of three categories:

  1. Local charges: Which accounts for inmates who have pending local charges.
  2. No local charges with Other Detainers: Inmates who have no pending local charges but have other detainers (i.e.: from the Florida Department of Corrections or other counties)
  3. No local charges, with no other detainers: Inmates who have no pending local charges and no other detainers. As of August 2025, the Orange County Corrections Department can bill ICE $88 per day to house these inmates.

The numbers ranging from August 2024 and August 2025, show that there has been a 2,196% increase in the average daily population of people being held at the jail on immigration-related charges, but no local charges or other detainers.
