The Pensacola State College Foundation recently announced the Vincent John Whibbs Sr. Memorial Endowed Scholarship, a $50,000 fund dedicated to students pursuing careers in automotive and diesel technology programs.
Details: The scholarship was established by John Paul “JP” Whibbs in honor of his father, Vincent “Vince” Whibbs Sr., who embodied public service, entrepreneurship, and community dedication. Surrounded by over 20 family members at the announcement, JP shared that though he never attended college, Mayor Emeritus Whibbs supported many students in their pursuit of higher education. Over 20 Whibbs family members joined JP to honor the legacy of their patriarch, Mayor Emeritus Vincent Whibbs Sr.

Vincent Whibbs Sr. served as mayor from 1977 to 1991, making him the longest-serving mayor in Pensacola’s history.
He was a past president of the Pensacola Chamber of Commerce, Suburban Rotary Club, Gulf Coast Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and Junior Achievement. Whibbs was also a former board chair of Sacred Heart Hospital and AmSouth Banks of Florida.
