Caregiver Summit reminds guardians of kids with disabilities that ‘what they do matters’

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — On Thursday at the Marriott in Downtown Syracuse, caregivers of children with disabilities got an opportunity to fill their own cups.

All year round, David’s Refuge (which organized Thursday’s Caregiver Summit) provides free services and resources to parents and guardians. But at the Summit, now in its seventh year, caregivers convene for a day-long series of seminars, speakers, and sound healing. Deputy Mayor Sharon Owens gave this year’s keynote.

The Summit falls under Community Events, one of David’s three service areas. Another is their Respite Programming, hosted by a network of hotels and bed-and-breakfasts around the state, each offering guardians a home-away-from-home…
