Suspect arrested for assaults on Kirkwood cyclists

KIRKWOOD,Mo. — A Valley Park man has been arrested in connection with two assaults on cyclists reported in Kirkwood this summer. Kirkwood police say Kyle Valentine, 22, was taken into custody Friday and charged with assault and leaving the scene of an accident. His bond is set at $30,000, cash only.

Police say Valentine is the suspect in two July incidents involving a black Jeep Grand Cherokee. On July 12, a cyclist near West Adams and Geyer reported being threatened and shoved after the driver confronted him in traffic. Then on July 23, another cyclist was seriously injured when a vehicle cut him off on Marshall Road, causing a collision, before speeding away.

Detectives identified Valentine as the suspect. In addition to felony assault and hit-and-run charges, he also faces counts of property damage, tampering with evidence, and misdemeanor assault.

The injured cyclist from the July 23 crash was hospitalized with severe injuries. Police said the victim in the earlier case was not hurt…
