Inmate serving murder sentence assaults female Coxsackie Correctional Officer

Coxsackie, NY (WRGB) — A correction officer at Coxsackie Correctional Facility was hospitalized after being assaulted by an inmate serving a 20-years-to-life sentence for murder, according to the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association (NYSCOPBA).

They tell CBS6 the attack happened on Saturday, September 27, while the officer was monitoring inmates returning from afternoon recreation. Officials say the inmate aggressively approached the officer. When ordered to back up, he refused and then punched her in the face with a closed fist.

The union says the officer stumbled backward and attempted to gain distance as the inmate pursued her. Additional staff arrived and placed the inmate in handcuffs. He was then escorted to a Special Housing Unit pending disciplinary charges…
