Return of ’90s rock — Everclear performing in Sugar Hill Saturday

It seems like every time Art Alexakis, who founded the alt-rock band Everclear more than 30 years ago, looks around, he sees many of his contemporaries still out on the road.

It’s not unusual these days for bands from the 1990s — ranging from Collective Soul and Blind Melon to Weezer and Cracker and beyond — with still-loyal audiences jamming along with growing legions of new, younger fans. Alexakis can’t explain it, but he’s making the most of it.

“It’s just blowing up right now. Bands from the 1990s are just blowing up,” said Alexakis in a phone interview during the early days of Everclear’s 43-city fall tour, which will take them from Los Angeles to Chicago and all points in between now and November…
