Master Gardeners Pumpkin Walk: teaching about the environment in a spooky way

The annual Penn State Extension Master Gardeners Pumpkin Walk at Waldameer Park has once again brought together dozens of local organizations to carve nearly 1,200 pumpkins, lighting up the park’s trails in a festive and educational event. This year, 56 groups participated in the event, which serves as one of the largest fundraisers for the Penn State Extension Master Gardeners.

The funds raised from the event are crucial for supporting various environmental advocacy and horticultural education initiatives throughout the county.

Lisa Rand, the coordinator for the Penn State Extension Master Gardeners, emphasized the importance of the event, saying, “It’s very important that everybody knows where their food comes from. That is a big thing that we do. How to grow your food. How to make your environment a little bit nicer. A little bit better. A little bit cleaner. We do all of those different outreach projects throughout the county.”…
