De Pere aims to boost on-ice sports, tourism with newly named Schneider Family Area

DE PERE, Wis. (WFRV) – Cornerstone Community Center unveiled the name of its newest facility, the Donald and Patricia Schneider Family Area.

A press release says the 65,000-square foot arena, still under construction, will seat 3,000 spectators and expand opportunities for youth, high school, college and adult athletes. Leaders say the larger space will also attract national tournaments, each estimated to bring in about $5 million in local economic impact.

“The Donald and Patricia Schneider family have generously supported our efforts to growCornerstone’s facilities to provide additional opportunities for our community,” explained DonChilson, Cornerstone’s manager. “We thank the Schneiders and all of our other generousdonors for recognizing the importance of programs like ours and supporting healthyopportunities for kids and families in Northeast Wisconsin.”

With the naming announcement, Cornerstone also launched the public phase of its Grow the ‘Stone campaign. Of the $23 million goal, $20 million has already been raised. The community is now being asked to help secure the final $3 million…
