Abbeville celebrates 75th annual cattle festival

ABBEVILLE, La. (KLFY) — Abbeville is celebrating the 75th Louisiana Cattle Festival this weekend, a tradition that honors the state’s rich cattle and Cajun culture.

The festival, which began as the Louisiana Dairy Festival in 1949, was renamed in 1979 to reflect the declining dairy industry and the growing importance of cattle ranching in Louisiana.

“Actually, I’ve been here since 1949 because my mother was pregnant with me and it started in September of that year and I was born in December of that year. So I’ve been involved, like almost all my life,” said Barbara Horaist, an honoree of the festival…
